See my pregnancy photo series on Angie's Nest After lots of time and research, as well as just feeling what was best for me, I chose hypnobirthing as the way I wanted to give birth to my baby. You can read all the reasons I chose a natural birth here, but as a first-time pregnant mom, it just resonated with the way I wanted to bring my son into the world. The rainbow relaxation is a hypnotherapy method that not only provides a birthing mother colorful imagery to focus on in labor, but also corresponds to the colors of the chakras on each portion of the body she needs to relax. The visualization allows you to to relax every muscle through one of the most challenging physical feats your body will perform. As I prepared myself for the birth of my son {read my birth story here}, I wanted to create a piece to commemorate my pregnancy and help me with the visualization. So one night I turned the rainbow relaxation CD on repeat, set up my art table, and went to work. After I got going I realized I wanted to share it with my birth team as well, so in the end I came out with three of these pieces -- one for me, one for my midwife, and one for my hypnobirthing instructor. These two women had both been such an incredible help and support through my pregnancy, I thought they deserved one too. <3 I actually based it off of my 34 week photo from my baby bump photo series. I often snap photos of myself to help base body positions on when I'm sketching. Most works I don't really intend as self-portraits, but this one I wanted to represent me in my pregnancy experience. Each color of the rainbow lines up with the chakra on her body, and she is green -- the color of birth (and coincidentally my chosen birth color). I gave a framed original to my hypnobirthing teacher when she came to see me in the hospital. She was so touched, she shared it with Marie Mongan, the founder of hypnobirthing. Well, turns out Marie loved it and contacted me to use it for the cover of the new rainbow relaxation album, for hypno instructors to use in their classes, amongst other things. Pretty cool! I started making this piece for myself, but so humbled that it will now help many, many more women through their birth experience. When my son looks at it, now two months old, he stares at it mesmerized even more than most artwork. So glad I have something to represent his journey here and mine to motherhood. Hope you enjoy it, too!

Hey friends- So it's been awhile since I wrote over here. Let's just say I got a bit distracted with work, my other blog, and life so my sweet little art and photography blog got lost in the mix. Well let's not let that happen again! If you haven't checked out my lifestyle blog, Angie's Nest, head on over. In the meantime, I'm switching directions a bit in the art realm of my life and I'll be focusing a lot more on fine art, particularly my pastels, than I have in the past. If you haven't already seen my store, don't miss it! I'm having a $20 off sale for Mother's Day (to help fund the hospital bills associated with becoming a mother...fun stuff) so hurry on over. Help give this beautiful pile of artwork a happy home! And as always, thanks for your support!
I took wedding photos of Ashley and her hubby Marc a few years back, so it was so fun to catch up with this fun, family shoot with the extended family. Plenty of happy kids at Wheeler Farm! It was such a pleasure to work with such a beautiful family.
My dear friend Megan was one of my bridesmaids and I was so excited to shoot her and her fiance Marc who met at our alma mater, Westminster. So what better place for our photo shoot that our home campus? It was a pleasure taking bridals of the gorgeous Miss Amy before she became Mrs. Brown. Her wedding at Log Haven was absolutely stunning and I was so happy to be a part of it. Plus, she sort of gives Barbie a run for her money -- this girl is gorgeous! If rain on your wedding day is a sign of a good future, then these two love birds are very lucky in love. It was pouring rain on their wedding day, but the fog and romance made this mountain affair a gorgeous day at Millcreek Inn.
I'm a little ashamed at how long it has been since I blogged! I've been pretty busy with work, photo shoots and the general excitement of summer to keep up. Anyway, I haven't been MIA from the world of photography, so I have plenty of fun shoots to share. First, I had the honor of taking bridals of the lovely Danelle followed by her wedding at Millcreek Inn. I absolutely love her porcelain skin with her gorgeous white dress. I was lucky enough, once again, to photograph the always-fabulous Cabaret of Fools hosted by the Utah-based, internationally-touring, Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company. This is a stunning event each year and I was honored to be a part of it. Here's a peak at the foolish charms that awaited us all. And of course I couldn't resist the mirrors in the bathroom, so I finished it off with a self portrait. Want more? Read my post about the event on my other blog, Everyday Inspirations. I adore family photo shoots because it's so amazing to capture a their personality as they relate to each other; the love, joy and connection between family members. The Johnson family is all laughter, snuggles and silly faces and we sure had an adventure on this shoot. The clouds were looming while I waited for them and about five minutes before they came, the downpour really began. When the rain pours you have to run for cover and splash in the puddles. We could have rescheduled, but when you spend the time to get two kiddos ready and plan out the whole thing, sometimes it's worth it to just go for it -- and so we did with great results! Happy Valentine's Day! Today I'm sending the love to the lucky winner of my giveaway. The results are in--the winner of the Valentine's Day photo shoot is... Carolyn Dietrich! Can't wait to do a fun shoot with this cute family. Congratulations! Thank you all for participating. And a just to share some love, here's a little preview of a Valentine's Day shoot coming soon! She looks like she is willing the balloons to let her fly. Can't ever resist the puppy loves! You can still book a session at my special Valentine's Day rate when you book before February 19th.
